Namgoong Minsoo

Namgoong Minsoo (Korean: 남궁민수, Namgung Minsu) is the specialist who designed the security features on the train in Snowpiercer. He is portrayed by Song Kang-ho.

Background[edit | edit source]

He is a security expert on the train. He designed the security features and has been arrested and put into a deep sleep along with his daughter.

Throughout the Film[edit | edit source]

Curtis and his tailie companions awaken Nam from the drawers, in order to get his help opening the doors to the cars that lie ahead. He has become a drug addict, addicted to Kronole, and Curtis must give him a hallucinogen in order to get him to stay focused.

Nam, along with Yona and the rest of the Tailie passengers make their way through a mess hall and the protein bar processing room. When they reached the Yekatrina bridge as the Tailie fights with Minister Mason's soldiers. Nam didn't participated in the fight as his only goal is to keep Yona safe. During the battle, he looked outside the window and have a theory that the outside weather is getting warmer and it might be safe enough to get out of the train safely.

Nam, Yona, Curtis, Andrew, Tanya and Minister Mason (as a hostage.) Make their way through Ag-Sec, The Aquarium, The Meat Locker, The Classroom, Luxurious Cars, The Sauna, The Nightclub, then finally the car next to the Eternal Engine.

Minsoo refused to unlock the final door to the Eternal Engine at the car next to it because he was too inebriated from Kronole, which enraged Curtis and led to an attempt to fight him. By offering Curtis the last cigarette in existence, Minsoo is able to calm himself down. Then Curtis explained to Minsoo why he wanted to murder Wilford and takeover the train.

Minsoo then informed Curtis that he preferred to exit the train by opening the door to the outside rather than continuing to Wilford. , he informed Curtis of his observation that the snow at Yekatrina Bridge has begun to melt and the earth may be warming once again. Before they have any chance to continue their conversation, one of Wilford's jackboots shot Minsoo, and invite Curtis to have a meal with Wilford.

In the end after Curtis and Wilford had spoken, while Yona denotates the bomb made out of Kronole that Curtis gave him, which Minsoo have collected along the way. Curtis and Minsoo shielded Yona and Tim in order to protect them from the blast, sacrificing themselves.
