“ | Dear readers, lay down your tomes and and sharpen your bon mots for Book Club. | ” |
— Wilford called the readers in Keep Hope Alive. |
Big Alice Book Club is a club aboard Big Alice.
History[edit | edit source]
The Book Club was founded shortly after Big Alice's Departure, it is unknown when but it is confirmed by Alex that the club was founded before The First Year Cull of Big Alice. Joseph Wilford would pick a book and print copies for the members and they would gather in the Big Alice's Engine after reading in order to discuss about the book. The reason Wilford made the club is to find the original thinkers aboard the train, the one who are worth saving life. It can be assumed that those who weren't good enough for Wilford got culled in the First Year.[1]
Throughout the Series[edit | edit source]
We see the Book Club in the beginning of Keep Hope Alive. The book they were assigned to read is Rebecca (1938) by Daphne du Maurier, which is the book Wilford requested when seizing Snowpiercer's Engine in The Time of Two Engines. Alex, Emilia, Mr. Headwood, Mrs. Headwood and Damien Ho were called in and awkwardly discussed about the book while Wilford ask questions.
Memorable Quotes[edit | edit source]
- Alex: "He tested us all for stamina. Physical strength. He ranked us by skillset. He used book club to find the original thinkers. He deemed us "The Essentials." Families were divided. Couples were separated."
- Bennett: "Made you feel chosen, didn't he?"
- Alex: "I was chosen. His crew…."
- ― Alex talking about the cull in Bound by One Track.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Later in the episode, Icy Bob helped calming Josie Wellstead down in her panic attack in The Headwoods' Lab (Big Alice). Icy Bob was holding the same copy of the Rebecca book. It may be possible that he is also a member of the book club but he couldn't attend due to the Headwoods treatments.
