The Chains are an area of Third Class occupied by young people. They are a Grand Total of 12 Cars Long. The name itself is very ironic being that the chains are a place for young 3rd class passengers who want more freedom to live while the name chains refers to being chained up or without rights.
History[edit | edit source]
Season 1[edit | edit source]
As implied by Roche, this was not actually a standard living space for 3rd class, as we can see 3rd class cabins in the show, but moreover an artistic outreach of a younger generation that wanted more freedom. This reflects in the design of the cars, which look very industrial and artistic.[1] When Melanie Cavill went to the Chains to stop Third from going on strike, a Woman yelled out and was abused by Jackboot Clifford.
Interior[edit | edit source]
The Chains are repurposed cargo containers. Many people have market stalls, small stores, and residences here.

- One of the menu is beef noodle.[2]
- LJ mentioned in First, the Weather Changed that she wants to eat noodles in Third.
- Tunnelman Jakes Carter was eating noodle here in his lunch break in Prepare to Brace, then he was joined by Andre Layton and Bess Till.
- An unnamed Proprietor (portrayed by Lillian Lim) runs the stall.
Market[edit | edit source]
Cars C0776 and C0777 are just some of the cars that are a part of the chains, and include many market stalls and homes.
- C0776 - On the run, Erik Sotto hid inside a container, possibly one owned by the Folger Family as he had access to it. He was later discovered by Brakeman Till and Brakeman Osweiller.[3]
- C0777 - While escaping the duo of Brakemen, Erik also hid inside the adjacent Market car. There, he took Jinju Seong hostage, while she was picking up a gift for Till. After firing into the air, he forced the Jackboot guarding the door to stand aside and escaped with his hostage to the adjacent Utility Car.[3]
Zarah's Home[edit | edit source]

- Layton is taken at the first floor by Roche and saw Zarah, Tino and Lee waiting for them.[1]
- Roche and Layton arrived at the first floor and talk to Zarah about Sean Wise and Kronole.[4]
- After Josie took Layton out of the Drawers, she brought Layton to the second floor and ask Zarah to take care of him.[5] Later Layton secretly listened to Melanie's announcement to the thirdies. Josie arrived again to escort him to Doctor Pelton.[6]
- When Zarah arrived at the first floor, she saw Jackboot Clifford guarding the front door, As she entered the room, Melanie Cavill was standing there searching her belongings.[7]
- Layton confronted Zarah before he surrenders to the Jackboots. He learned that Zarah was pregnent.[8]
