(100% complete probably. Added sub-sections to the plot, corrected some errors, added more trivia, added some more images, finished characters & factions. If I update the page again it will probably be to update the cast or for a new image that surfaced, but that's very unlikely at this point considering how much I have been able to find.)

Script Synopsis
Production History
We open on the image of a snowstorm and text on the screen explaining what happened on planet earth before it became frozen. We quickly see the massive snowpiercer train, which is leaving a frozen city in the midst of the storm. Then we look into the eye of a cow, which has the number 18 written on its forehead. She's with a dozen of other cows. Welcome now to the tail section of the train, a place of starvation and hopelessness. We follow a little boy named Fergus, who's playing with rats, and a man named Layton, who may or may not be his father. A woman's voice is heard over the loudspeaker, wishing the passengers good morning on behalf of Wilford Industries and Transport.
Around November 2015, Tomorrow Studios optioned the rights to the Bong Joon Ho's 2013 film, with sources stating it would be executive-produced by writer-showrunner Josh Friedman, Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements.

We're introduced to five workers who are stripping off their filthy work clothes under the supervision of security guards known as “The Brakemen.” Their skin is covered with industrial waste. They enter the tail section, where they're reunited with their families. Fergus hugs one of them: it's his father, Ian. We then meet the Anderson family: Jack, Lilah and their teenage daughter LJ. They're eating breakfast peacefully, in a pod that looks nicer than the tail section. Once he's done eating, Jack joins the agricultural supply car, through a railed transportation tunnel. Turns out he's a farm worker, soon to feed our cow number 18. Meanwhile, Lilah goes to her job at a high-end nail salon. A client is waiting for her, and it's Melanie Cavill, the voice of the train announcements. She's a member of the train's First Class and she's fascinated with the other half.

Background, departure
The episode starts off with white letters in black explaining the freeze before it shows workers in dark uniforms unloading cargo boxes from CAT-type snow vehicles into what the script describes Snowpiercer as "enormous steel containers" in a forest. Just then, a large mob of people, who later become the tailies, storm the compound. Armed security forces (Jackboots), who have black weather masks, come out from the train to fight the mob in silhouette. A short while later the train departs, with a portion of the mob onboard.
"It is truly All That Remains."
7 years later in the tail, we follow a boy named Fergus. Fergus goes over to a different car with cages that may have been for large dogs, but remodeled as a "rube-goldbergian series of metal dividers and wooden planks and wire that both contain and control hundreds of rats who all have numbers written on them." Next to the cages sleeps Layton Well, which wakes up a little bit after Fergus arrives and sits across him patiently. When Layton wakes up, smart Fergus shows off a rat trap which he mentions he might be able to make 2 more of it if he takes apart 3 of the others. He runs off after Layton puts the number 3 rat into the trap and gives it to him just as a chime sounds across the train; a woman's voice wishes everyone well on behalf of Wilford Industries and Transport. Just then 5 tailies re-enter the tail section as they come back from filthy toxic work, escorted by Brakemen. One of them is Ian McConnel, Fergus' father, who arrives at the McConnel bunk after hugging his son. Josie, Ian's wife, cleans his face from the toxic industrial waste. Afterwards Josie and Layton clean Kronole off of Ian's boots as they discuss about the "Engineer's test." Layton mentions he has already loaned the Harper girl with his Andronicus but is not sure if Fergus has whatever it takes.
Meanwhile we cut to workers’ quarters in 4th class. Clean, spare, like an army barrack with screens have been put up throughout for privacy. 12-15 people live in this car. It’s not ideal, but it’s not the tail and they’re not prisoners. At the same time as the events in the tail we see Anderson pod we see Jack, Lilah and LJ eating breakfast shortly before we hear the chime and the woman's voice again. They put away their breakfasts into small lockers before they enter the sub-train through a hatch and ride it to AG-SEC where Jack and another worker, Silva, get off in an agriculture car before making their way to car 56 where cow 18 waits for it's breakfast. At the same time, Lilah and LJ continue riding the sub-train before it stops. LJ gets off at the same agriculture car while wearing amber-orange heavy garden work clothing. An older woman named Mrs. Wright tells her to haul some bags to downtrain of the agriculture section as aft planters need help. We cut back to Lilah getting off the sub-train and into a small changing room where she quickly gets ready with make-up before entering a high-end nail saloon, clients wearing sky blue with nail laborers wearing black. She approaches her client from the upper class; Melanie Cavill, the voice of the train, who's early, but apologizes nonetheless. Some weirdness ensues as Lilah is uneasy talking about Mr. Wilford after her a coworker crosses the "W" across their chest after Lilah mentions the word "train." Melanie finds it amusing and afterwards asks Lilah to do something similar to her nails like what she did with the lipstick.
"I consider your sentence of three Full Turns for the crime of Manslaughter with a Mitigation of Self-Defense to be complete."
Meanwhile, John Osweiller awakens Bess Till and tells her that they will be pulling Pixi Aariak (from the Nightcar) out of the drawers. We hear the chime and voice over train-wide speakers again as they get up and walk downtrain before using the sub-train. They later arrive to meet Magistire Maki, the prison warden pope, and Dr. Alfredsson. As Pixi's drawer is opened, Dr. Alfredsson mentions they've been tapering the suspension for the last 2 days to make her wake-up process easier. The warden unlocks the cuff on Pixi arm, revealing her arm is black from elbow to fingertip. The doctor informs them Pixi has been in the drawers for 3 years, the longest anyone has ever been, but just then Pixi screams awake. Till and Osweiller rush to the drawer to stop Pixi from rolling around and injuring herself. Afterwards Till sits next to Pixi in the recovery room. Pixi keeps spitting out a bloody red into the sink after taking a sip from a cup of water. Till later has to wash Pixi, where she finds out Pixi is hurting inside. Afterwards Till takes Pixi back to the prison car where her sentence of 3 full turns for Manslaughter with a Mitigation of Self-Defense to be complete.
Till and Oz then take Pixi back to the Night car using the subtrain, where a man working at the desk in the waiting room welcomes her back. While waiting Osweiller curiously skims through a book, but then a woman in her 60s comes in. It's Miss Audrey, relieved to see Pixi out of the drawers again. They have an emotional re-unite as the Brakemen are about to leave, Pixi starts speaking in a hoarsest whisper. "Mr. Osweiller... Everybody loves it." The scene cuts to the 2 brakemen walking away from the Night car,  Till barely able to restrain a shit eating grin as she teases Osweiller that he has something about him that would inspire a girl, who hasn’t talked in three years, to make her first words "fuck you."

However they are soon interrupted by an alarm and the voice of the train over the radio, telling them to brace for impact, no drill. The train collides head on with a large ice-slide and the 2 Brakemen are unable to hold onto anything. They are sent flying as the train rocks from side to side, righting itself. They get up after the train stabilizes, making sure they're alright. Later, Layton is seen feeding the rats with Fergus' assistance of finding the correct rats. Jinju is seen checking up on the fish and the tank in the aquarium car after the collision with Melanie, where they have a meditation session with the fish afterwards. Minutes later, Jinju prepares some sushi for Melanie and they have a talk as the sun sets.
Meanwhile, Pixi searches through the box of clothes on her bunk, and as she dresses up she finds a small faded blood stain on the t-shirt she put on, but is soon interrupted by Val, the former thirdie who replaced Pixi. Val asks her on how her arm feels, which she answers "like ice." Pixi is then asked how suspension was and she answers it's like what everyone else describes; except both understand unspokenly that it's nothing like that. Pixi later crawls under her bed. At the end of the day, Melanie announces over speakers that there were no serious injuries from the impact earlier that day and everything is in working order as the Anderson family return to their quarters. As the tailies are delivered their protein bars and give the corner of each one to Layton to feed the rats.
The Second Murder
Jack enters the meat freezer car, shocked to find 2 dead bodies hung up like meat with blood all over everything except them. As Jack investigates, he identifies that one of them is Pixi's roommate Val. Later, Magistrate Maki, Doctor Alfredsson, various Brakemen including Roche, Bess and Osweiller, as well as poor Jack Anderson are in the butcher's car. Roche opens the door to the meat freezer car. Using plastic wrap as a walkway, Till and Osweiller walk over to the bodies. They identify them as Val(eria Childress) from the night car and Eduardo Raggio from car 37. While tensions rise between them as no-one has ever worked on a murder on the train before, Roche informs them that Pixi is a suspect. Just then, Melanie enters the butcher's car, having a talk with Maki and Alfredsson as Roche tells Tills and Osweiller to only tell the passengers what they need to know.
Later, Sayori arrives at the tail section with a few brakemen and makes a speech telling what Mr. Wilford went through and that he understands hardships before stating that children who pass the annual Engineer’s Apprenticeship Test will be upgraded to Engineer's quarters and that their parents will be allowed to see them annually at the departure celebration and memorial. Asher and Ellie accept the offer, but Josie doesn't allow Fergus to go, even if Layton is conflicted. He takes a hit of Kronole before heading back to his rats.
Till and Osweiller go to Car 37 to question the residents, Turner, Avi, Kadima, Bo and Cleo. Cleo quickly figures out that Eduardo has died early on in questioning. Osweiller sadly confirms this and Till apologizes and tells them they sadly won't be able to leave the car until further notice, which makes the residents realize they're possible suspects. She then tells them to write down everything they remember from yesterday and last night up until when they knocked on their door, telling them to not speak to each other until they are done. After a quiet talk between the residents, they start writing down as Till leaves and Osweiller stays behind to watch.
Investigation Begins
Back in the Meat Freezer car, Bolger the butcher and Baptiste the head chef investigate the blood in surgical gear, taking small samples. They come out of the car minutes later and tell what they have gathered. Bolger says that because the blood was warm when it hit the meat, it worked it's way deep inside. Bapspite suggests they throw the meat away as Melanie walks downtrain into the cattle car to see poor Jack, sitting next to the cows, mentally drained. Meanwhile, Sayori encourages Asher and Ellie through a door in the passageway with an engineer.
Later in the Night car, Till questions Pixi and Miss Audrey. Pixi doesn't have anything that could help Till and is more worried that she can't go back. Audrey assures her she won't be. Later in the corridor, Till and Audrey talk alone. The two women reflect quietly, unsure of the girl inside. Audrey reminds Till that Pixi doesn't have anything to do with this and that what they do in the Night car isn't entertainment and that it pulls deep. Meanwhile, Pixi lays down on Val's bed as the two are outside.
Bolger and Maki arrive at the aquarium car to talk with Jinju. As they have some tea, Bolger informs her they've lost 200 pounds of beef (because of the blood) and unless they accelerate the butchering, there will be shortages up and down train. Maki suggests if Jinju very slightly increases her customer load for a month she will be able to correct the balance between her and Bolger, but Jinju keeps refusing, telling them that the tank won't allow it. After some sake, Bolger and Maki leave.
Later, Till comes back to car 37. Osweiller hands her the statements, telling everything lines up: They went to the movies and Eduardo went off to practice his violin afterwards while they came back to their car. Till's attention is then drawn to Turner and Cleo as their talk have become less whispery. Cleo wants to say something but Turner and Kadima won't allow her to. Everyone but Bo and Cleo have drifted to separate parts of the car. The strain on this relationship showing. Till and Osweiller leave afterwards before they arrive at a W insignia. Osweiller pulls out and inserts a key in before turning it and pushing on the insignia. It reveals a secret phone as the insignia turns (like the phone in the movie).
As Melanie announces that 2nd and 3rd class will have changes made to this week's menu, Layton is escorted out of the tail by two brakemen. He is stripped in the bio security car before being washed by someone in a has-mat suit by very hot water with a pink disinfectant hue to it. After getting his hair buzzed, he puts on light blue scrubs before being escorted out of the car uptrain. He sees day-light for the first time in 7 years as he is escorted through the corridors.
Layton arrives at the first class dining car, sobering up from Kronole quickly as Maki, Roche and Till is waiting for him there. Roche gives him a tray which Layton uncovers to see a perfect grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup. Layton is confused and asks what is going on, Maki signals Till. Till opens the door and Osweiller comes in with a Cleo who's shaking from the palm-sweating guttwist of an ex-lovers’ knife wound rent new in his abdomen. Layton slides Cleo the sandwich but she refuses, telling him that she's not ready to go back in time with him today. Layton seems upset that she used to eat the sandwich and isn't eating it now, but Cleo isn't sure why. Suddenly Layton picks up the bowl and violently guzzles it; half of the hot soup pours down his shirt. He gags and vomits out most of it back onto the table and the other occupants. Cleo puts up a hand saying she's sorry. After observing her, Layton gestures for Cleo to continue. She explains there's 2 people she loved have been killed. Maki mentions that this train has everything you can imagine including a new military that they trained after Layton's mob killed 11 of their security. Layton says he didn't kill anyone and Maki states that's the exact reason they chose him. Layton now realizes why he's here. Darting around the room, his eyes land on Till. He questions her and she answers she was a cop for 3 years at Virginia Beach. Layton springs up to his feet as Till touches his arm as an old habit. He walks over to the glass and smudges "Damon" on it. Layton then walks back to the table before sitting back down in-front of Cleo. He says that he is sorry for Cleo's loss, but he then recounts the 16 tailies that Cleo knew. Cleo then expresses that she doesn't care, as Roche and Maki make eye contant before sending Till and Osweiller to escort Layton back to the tail. Cleo cries silent, angry tears at the table as Maki stands at the window where Layton stood, reading what Layton had smudged. When Maki asks, Cleo answers that Damon is Layton's brother, and that the grilled cheese and tomato soup was his favorite meal. Cleo then proceeds to smash the plate afterwards.
"Breach C56. Breach C56."
Back in one of the 4th class worker's cars, Jack sleeps curled in his bunk as Lilah and LJ sit on the floor, playing gin. Silva, pokes his head into their pod, telling them that he needs Jack before waking him up and walking through car 56 to car 55 with him and Bolger. At the same time, as Till, Osweiller and Layton walk downtrain through one of the agriculture cars, Osweiler stops at a small orange tree. He catches Mrs. Wright’s eye as he points to an orange. After she nods, Osweiller pulls the orange off the tree and hands it to Layton with a perverse casualness. Layton just stays silent and holds the orange as they walk down into the subtrain. However, as Layton contemplates the orange, Till brings the subtrain to a stop, leaving Osweiller confused. They get up and out of the subtrain before heading up and into the butcher car. They find Bolger and Jack sharpening knives and Silva preparing the bolt gun for butchering. They then leave back to car 56 after allowing the trio to have the meat locker car for the time being. Till and Osweiller lead Layton to the scene of the crime, explaining who was murdered as Layton investigates the bodies. He then notices a white bucket with smears of blood at the bottom of it. When he asks if they can test it, Osweiller responds that they have no lab, so they can't. Layton goes back to investigating the bodies and the ruined meat, when Osweiller asks him if whoever did the crime ruined the meat on purpose. Layton doesn't have a clue.
As  Jack and Bolger struggle with cow 18 with Silva striving down to help them while holding the bolt gun in car 56, Osweiller wraps the bucket in plastic wrap. Layton admits that being a homicide detective is the worst job in the world and that he's not going to help them, but just then, the alarm and voice sounds yet again, telling them to brace. The train had just turned a corner heading straight towards another ice slide, much larger than the last. The train hits the ice slide, a massive impact rocking them to the ground. The cattle car jolts fiercely, sending the men slamming against the window, including Silva, whose bolt gun discharges against the glass, breaking a hole in it. The -140 degree air starts rushing into the car, freezing everything in it's path. Just then things take a turn for worse as the train hits another ice slide, causing the already broken window to collapse entirely now. The cows closest to the metal railings in the car begin freezing to the metal rails. As cow 18 lurches and crushes Bolger between her and metal railings, the alarms in the car go off and the doors shut. Layton, Till and Osweiller struggle to their feet amidst the swinging bodies and beef before rushing over to the butchers car to witness the horrifying scene.
Jack and Silva struggle to stand but the floor is slick with ice. Silva's hand gets frozen to a metal railing, and as he tries to pull his hand away, the flesh tears off. Suddenly, 10 breach soldiers arrive, telling the trio to get out of their way. The soldiers race out of the Butcher’s car and head around to the other side of car before entering the cattle car, brutally zapping the animals to try and save them. Meanwhile, another batch of breachmen tell everybody in the 4th class quarters to evacuate to the sub-train through the previous or next car. As the breachmen unseals the door to the 4th class worker's car in one of the industrial cars, some cows stampede into the 4th class residential car, smashing the workers’ pods, destroying living quarters as the 4th class just wait in the subtrain. The breachmen save as much cows as possible, but leave the 3 to die. Seeing this, Osweiller wraps his head and hands in plastic wrap and makes a run into the cattle car, shutting the door behind him just as Layton and Till lock themselves in the meat locker car. Osweiller try to get the breachmen's attention as they leave, but he fails. He then slips as Jack grabs him by the foot, begging to be saved. Jack won't let go. Till runs back into the butcher's car, before sprinting down a side passageway to the other end of the car, where she finds a breach soldier. She pleads him to go back in there, but the soldier refuses. Back in the cattle car, Osweiller gets desparate as Jack is dooming them both. He takes the wrap off of one of his hands and grabs Silva's bolt gun before using it to shatter Jack's hand and his foot. The two men scream, never to be heard over the roars of the murdering wind whipping through the train. Till and Layton yank Osweiller back into the butcher's car. They shut the doors, knowing there's nothing they can do for Jack anymore. All they can do is watch.

Osweiler rolls on the ground, blackened by frostbite, what’s left of his pulverized foot dangling ugly behind him. He sobs on frozen lungs, just as another brakemen delivers the 4th class the bad news in the subtrain. As the brakemen give the Andersons 3 minutes to gather their remaining belongings, Till escorts Layton back to the tail. He asks her what they think of the tailies. Till answers, saying that she thinks they're criminals before arriving at the tail. Layton re-enters the tail and goes back over to his familiar spot as Till goes uptrain, not looking back. Fergus goes over to question Layton, before he hands the orange from earlier to him. He then goes over to Josie and gives her a slice of the orange. Josie asks her if it was about Cleo, which Layton answers yes. Though just then, he notices Asher still in the tail. Josie informs her that he didn't pass the test, but the girl did. Just then, the voice of the train announces over PA to the tail that a section of 4th class will be staying as refugees in the tail, and just as the announcement is made, the tail doors open, providing access to the brakemen and the 4th class refugees. Though Layton cringes inside as he sees Fergus get jostled and drop his last section of orange by the refugees. Fergus tries to recover the fruit, but it's smashed underfoot into pieces.
Aftermath
Later in the night, a breach soldier enters the breached cattle car. He goes over to Jack's dead body, shining a light on him and his hand. He then cracks Jack's ring finger and retrieves his wedding ring before leaving. At the same time, Jinju dives into the aquarium and harvests some fish and other sealife. Afterwards, she gets out and packs a beautiful enameled box full of her bounty, now prepped in the most exquisite style. She then leaves with the box before arriving at Till's quarters. She has a little conversation with Till, before she shows her the soup she prepared. The 2 sip the soup together before making love together. Later though, Till is delivered a package by a brakeman.
Back in the tail, Layton is alone in the back with his cage of rats. He’s writing in his rat journal, before ripping the page out after he finishes it. He reaches inside the mass of rodents and moves aside a wooden slat on the bottom of the cage before pulling out a metal box. He opens the box revealing his badge and gun, before wrapping the gun and badge in a rag along with his kronole and hides them back under the rats. He places the piece of journal paper in the box along with something else the camera can't see, before shoving the box into his pocket.
In the morning, Ian and other tailies return from work, just as the 4th class refugees are escorted out of the tail. Sayori then enters the tail section, people taking notice of her. She informs the tail it has come to their attention that there may be a natural among them, and right afterwards, brakemen take Fergus away against his will. She leaves afterwards, just as the tail is served beef stew, from the meat that was covered in human blood. Just then, another brakeman takes Layton away. In the bio-security car, Till waits for Layton with Fergus' rat trap. As Layton arrives, she hands it back to him. They then head uptrain together.
At the same time in the nail salon, Lilah enters for her shift. She finds the salon empty except for Melanie. Lilah sits down in-front of Melanie, finding her nails broken, her hands red and chapped. Melanie says that she's sorry for what happened to Jack and that she had lost her husband too, but in the end she still talks to him. Lilah asks what happened to her nails, but Melanie refuses to answer, saying it doesn't matter. Just then, she reveals Jack's wedding ring that the breach soldier retrieved from the breached car. Melanie tells Lilah she wants to help her, but Lilah is only worried about LJ. She tells Lilah that she can help with LJ as well, but she has to believe in her. Melanie.
Meanwhile, Miss Audrey goes over to check up on Pixi, and just then LJ arrives. She introduces both of them to each other, stating that LJ will be staying in the Nightcar for now. Just as LJ is about to unpack on Val's bed, Pixi moves her belongings to Val's bed, and tells LJ to take her bed. Afterwards, Miss Audrey pulls the door shut, leaving the 2 young women reeling from the loss of family and friends to themselves. Miss Audrey nods at Melanie, who has been waiting outside. She heads uptrain as Pixi continues playing with that match-box sized object.

Later in Melanie's quarters, Melanie arrives and changes her clothing and puts on make-up before she hits a button to open a camoflauged wall into the cockpit in the engine. She enters, walking towards the seat in the very front. She tells the engineer there that she has the train. The engineer, in response, says "Mr. Wilford. You have the train." before makings a W sign and leaving. Melanie stands there, watching as the train eats away miles of track.

Characters & Factions
Layton Well
A prisoner barely surviving the harsh conditions in the tail end of the train. A quiet thinker who spends his days sniffing the industrial-waste-turned-drug Chronole and tending to his cage full of rats. He is a former homicide detective who hated his job. He later becomes a reluctant participant in a struggle that could upend life on the train 7 years after departure to solve a murder.
He would be one of the few characters that made it to the final show as Andre Layton, albeit being slightly changed.
Melanie Cavill
A First Class passenger who makes the daily announcements over the system, known as the Voice of the Train. Unlike how the rich passengers at the front(?) of the train don’t pay attention to the working class and poverty-stricken ones in the back, she is fascinated by them. She may or may not be trying to have a lesbian relationship with Lilah, seemingly scratching or breaking her nails on purpose to meet her again in the beauty salon. Her father and husband is dead.
She is one of the few characters that made it to the final show as the same character, albeit being slightly changed.
Bess Till
A brakeman onboard the Snowpiercer. She's part of the train's security force, but she's thoughtful and empathetic, and she finds herself caught in the center of a mystery that disrupts the train's uneasy status quo.
She is one of the few characters that made it to the final show as Bess Francis Till, albeit being slightly changed.
Fergus McConnell
A boy who lives in the back of the train amongst poverty. He helps his mother care for his sick father, and does his best to contribute to the daily struggles of life in this part of the train. He is later taken uptrain for the Engineer’s Apprenticeship Test against his will.
He would be one of the few characters that made it to the final show as Miles, albeit being slightly changed.
Josie McConnell
A strong, no-nonsense woman who lives in poverty at the tail of the train. Josie cares for her sick husband as well as their precocious son. She would do anything for her family, and when unforeseen circumstances turn their lives upside down, she'll learn exactly how far she'll go.
She would be one of the few characters that made it to the final show as Josie Wellstead, albeit being slightly changed.
Ian McConnell
Father to Fergus and husband to Josie. He is an ill prisoner in the tail that works all night in dirty and harsh conditions.
Lilah Andreson
A careful and quiet but a pragmatic and independent thinker of a woman. Lilah lives with her husband and daughter in a fourth-class cabin and works in the train’s nail salon. Lilah doesn’t know how strong she is, but she’ll soon be forced to find out.
She seems very similar to Lilah Folger in the final show.
Lilah Anderson Junior (LJ)
A quiet, diligent, Midwestern girl who lives with her parents in a fourth-class cabin and works in the greenhouse car. Poor but not as desperate as those that live in the tail of the train, LJ has made peace with her daily routine until a major event shakes up her world.
She seems very similar to Lilah Folger Junior in the final show.
Jack Anderson
A 42 year old 4th class worker, husband to Lilah and father to LJ. He used to work alongside Silva and Bolger to look after, feed and butcher the cows. He freezes to death in car 56 after the window breaks and Osweiller uses the bolt gun to obliterate his hand off.
He seems very similar to Robert Folger in the final show.
Silva
Silva is a 4th class worker who used to work alongside Jack and Bolger in cars 54-58, helping look after, feed and butcher. He freezes to death after his bolt gun accidentally smashes the window before it completely breaks in car 56.
Bolger
He is a 4th class worked who used to work alongside Jack and Silva, helping look after, feed and butcher the cows. He freezes to death alongside Jack, Silva and the cows in car 56.
Pixi Aairak
A strange, mysterious, and inscrutable, a charismatic chameleon and probably inspired by the expression “still waters run deep.” She returns to the front of the train after a three-year sentence in the prison car and struggles to acclimate to her old life.
She seems very similar to Nikki in the final show, and judging by the events of Season 1, she probably would've been proven not guilty.
Avi
A man in his late 20s, part of a polyamorous relationship that's reeling from a personal tragedy. He also works on the Breach Team as a Breach Soldier. He is a resident of car 37.
Cleo
Layton's ex-wife who abandoned him. She is a resident of car 37 and is in her 30s.
She seems similar to Zarah in the final show, albeit less caring of Layton.
Turner
A man in his 40s, resident of and part of the "family" in car 37.
Bo
Resident of car 37. She is in her 20s.
Eduardo Raggio
One of the two murdered people in the second murder, who was a resident of car 37. He is murdered and tied up in the meat locker car.
Valerie 'Val' Childress
A former third-class passenger that came to the Night car to replace Pixi after she was drawered. She is murdered alongside Eduardo.
Miss Audrey
Miss Audrey is an ageless woman (in her 60s) who seems to be the lead performer of the Nightcar. She helps Pixi re-stabilize back into her old life and occasionally helps out others on questions about her.
She seems similar to Miss Audrey from the final show.
Jinju
An elite First Class passenger who also works as a fine dining chef at the train’s sushi bar and looks after the fish in the aquarium.
Mrs. Wright
A no-nonsense woman in her 60s who works in the agriculture car C57. She seems to be a higher ranking passenger that manages the car.
Wilford Industries & Transport
Wilford Industries & Transport is Mr. Wilford's transportation empire that built the ark train.
Mr. Wilford's father and grandfather worked in automobile factories but they lost their jobs when the factories closed. Mr. Wilford’s father went in search of a job but he never returned. Mr. Wilford’s mother lost her home. They lived in shelters and in the streets. They later lived in a railyard in empty train cars. All the while Mr. Wilford’s mother insisted that he'd go to school, and she made whatever sacrifices needed for that to continue. He was a natural and despite his hardships, he had opportunity. He was a bright light, and given the chance, he shined, leading up to him presumably graduating school successfully and founding the company. He later built the Engine Eternal and the great ark train to preserve humanity, however he was presumably left trackside and kept hidden he was still onboard.
Not much else is known as this is everything given to us about Mr. Wilford and his company in this singular episode. A-lot of theories could be made about the background of the company and/or where Mr. Wilford actually ended up.
Brakemen
A loose lot who spend more time mediating drunks than solving real crime. Beat cops in a nice neighborhood. They are a part of the train’s fairly swiss clockworks, being the main form of security. Most of them consist of former military or Wilford security. They wear maroon uniforms.

* Wilford isn't on-board Snowpiercer just like season 1 of the series, however his backstory in the pilot seems darker. According to Sayori, Wilford's father grandfather worked in a car factory, but lost their job when the factory shutdown. His father went on a search for a job but never returned and his mother lost her house, leading them to living in shelters, the streets and eventually railyards and empty trains. His mother had to sacrifice herself for Wilford to go to school.

* Snowpiercer's departure in the pilot seems much more secret compared to the TV Series, seemingly taking place in a forest under secret operation instead of a large railyard where the TV Series' luxury liner was known to depart on it's rail cruises.

* Layton's brother, Damon, likes grilled cheese and tomato soup.
* It's implied by Till that before the Earth froze, there were 10 billion people.
**This implies that the big rise in population could have been one of the reasons for scientists to develop CW-7, as more people could mean more usage of elements harmful to the Earth that play a role in global warming.
**It could also be plausible the departure place in 2050, as it is estimated Earth's population would reach 10 billion by that year.
**This could also be an explanation on the more sci-fi appearance of the train as a whole.
* Melanie's surname has an extra E at the end in the script.
*Besides characters and actors, there are a number of other things that make it into the final show from the pilot episode. These include:
**Grilled cheese and tomato soup.
**Cow 18
*Tailies are referred to as prisoners.

This article is about the unreleased Pilot Episode, titled All That Remains. You may be looking for the first episode of Season 1, titled First, the Weather Changed.

All That Remains, better known as the Pilot Episode, is the unaired pilot episode of Snowpiercer TV Series. (A pilot episode is a standalone episode of a TV-Series made to sell the show to television networks/distributors as a testing ground to see and test if the series will be successful.) The episode is similar to season 1 as a whole, however there isn't any class warfare.

The pilot has never been released to the public and has most probably been lost to time, however concept art as well as numerous photographs of the sets, episode and the script have surfaced on the internet.

The 72 page script can be read here.

Production History[edit | edit source]

Around November 2015, Tomorrow Studios optioned the rights to the Bong Joon Ho's 2013 film, with sources stating it would be executive-produced by writer-showrunner Josh Friedman, Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements.[1][2]

On November 21st 2016, TNT officially ordered an hour-long pilot to be made.[3][4][5] Multiple scripts were written, however, Josh Friedman's finalized script would go on to be used. [4] Scott Derrickson would also become an executive producer. On May 17, Daveed Diggs would join the cast as Layton Well.[6][7][8] On the 7th of June, news would surface that Jennifer Conelly would join the main cast opposing Diggs as Melanie Cavill. [9] Mickey Sumner would join the cast as Brakeman Bess Till the next day.[10] [11][12] On June 14th 2017 Annalise Basso and Sasha Frolova were added to the cast as LJ Anderson and Pixi Aariarak respectively. [13] It would be announced that Allison Wright and Benjamin Haigh would become part of the cast as Lilah Anderson and Fergus McConnell respectively the next day.[14] On June 21st, Roberto Urbina and Katie McGuinness would be signed as Avi and Josie McConnell respectively.[15] On September 1st, Susan Park would join the cast as Jinju Seong, with Lena Hall joining as Sayori the same month.[16][17] The filming took some place betweem 2016 and 2017.

As January 2018 rolled around, the show would have some issues in development hell. TNT would order a full series,[18] the same day they would remove Josh Friedman be removed from showrunning duties because they didn’t think he would be compliant.[19] Scott Derrickson soon left as well, declining re-shoots of the original episode. Graeme Manson was appointed to replace Friedman as showrunner the following month[20], and James Hawes replaced Scott in July.[21]

Plot[edit | edit source]

[22]

Background, departure[edit | edit source]

The episode starts off with white letters in black explaining the freeze before it shows workers in dark uniforms unloading cargo boxes from CAT-type snow vehicles into what the script describes Snowpiercer as "enormous steel containers" in a forest. Just then, a large mob of people, who later become the tailies, storm the compound. Armed security forces (Jackboots), who have black weather masks, come out from the train to fight the mob in silhouette. A short while later the train departs, with a portion of the mob onboard.

"It is truly All That Remains."[edit | edit source]

"I consider your sentence of three Full Turns for the crime of Manslaughter with a Mitigation of Self-Defense to be complete."[edit | edit source]

The Second Murder[edit | edit source]

Investigation Begins[edit | edit source]

Breach C56."[edit | edit source]

Aftermath[edit | edit source]

Characters & Factions[edit | edit source]

Layton Well[edit | edit source]

A prisoner barely surviving the harsh conditions in the tail end of the train. A quiet thinker who spends his days sniffing the industrial-waste-turned-drug Chronole and tending to his cage full of rats. He is a former homicide detective who hated his job. He later becomes a reluctant participant in a struggle that could upend life on the train 7 years after departure to solve a murder.

He would be one of the few characters that made it to the final show as Andre Layton, albeit being slightly changed.

Melanie Cavill[edit | edit source]

A First Class passenger who makes the daily announcements over the system, known as the Voice of the Train. Unlike how the rich passengers at the front(?) of the train don’t pay attention to the working class and poverty-stricken ones in the back, she is fascinated by them. She may or may not be trying to have a lesbian relationship with Lilah, seemingly scratching or breaking her nails on purpose to meet her again in the beauty salon. Her father and husband is dead.

She is one of the few characters that made it to the final show as the same character, albeit being slightly changed.

Bess Till[edit | edit source]

A brakeman onboard the Snowpiercer. She's part of the train's security force, but she's thoughtful and empathetic, and she finds herself caught in the center of a mystery that disrupts the train's uneasy status quo.

She is one of the few characters that made it to the final show as Bess Francis Till, albeit being slightly changed.

Fergus McConnell[edit | edit source]

A boy who lives in the back of the train amongst poverty. He helps his mother care for his sick father, and does his best to contribute to the daily struggles of life in this part of the train. He is later taken uptrain for the Engineer’s Apprenticeship Test against his will.

He would be one of the few characters that made it to the final show as Miles, albeit being slightly changed.

Josie McConnell[edit | edit source]

A strong, no-nonsense woman who lives in poverty at the tail of the train. Josie cares for her sick husband as well as their precocious son. She would do anything for her family, and when unforeseen circumstances turn their lives upside down, she'll learn exactly how far she'll go.

She would be one of the few characters that made it to the final show as Josie Wellstead, albeit being slightly changed.

Ian McConnell[edit | edit source]

Father to Fergus and husband to Josie. He is an ill prisoner in the tail that works all night in dirty and harsh conditions.

Lilah Andreson[edit | edit source]

A careful and quiet but a pragmatic and independent thinker of a woman. Lilah lives with her husband and daughter in a fourth-class cabin and works in the train’s nail salon. Lilah doesn’t know how strong she is, but she’ll soon be forced to find out.

She seems very similar to Lilah Folger in the final show.

Lilah Anderson Junior (LJ)[edit | edit source]

A quiet, diligent, Midwestern girl who lives with her parents in a fourth-class cabin and works in the greenhouse car. Poor but not as desperate as those that live in the tail of the train, LJ has made peace with her daily routine until a major event shakes up her world.

She seems very similar to Lilah Folger Junior in the final show.

Jack Anderson[edit | edit source]

A 42 year old 4th class worker, husband to Lilah and father to LJ. He used to work alongside Silva and Bolger to look after, feed and butcher the cows. He freezes to death in car 56 after the window breaks and Osweiller uses the bolt gun to obliterate his hand off.

He seems very similar to Robert Folger in the final show.

Silva[edit | edit source]

Silva is a 4th class worker who used to work alongside Jack and Bolger in cars 54-58, helping look after, feed and butcher. He freezes to death after his bolt gun accidentally smashes the window before it completely breaks in car 56.

Bolger[edit | edit source]

He is a 4th class worked who used to work alongside Jack and Silva, helping look after, feed and butcher the cows. He freezes to death alongside Jack, Silva and the cows in car 56.

Pixi Aairak[edit | edit source]

A strange, mysterious, and inscrutable, a charismatic chameleon and probably inspired by the expression “still waters run deep.” She returns to the front of the train after a three-year sentence in the prison car and struggles to acclimate to her old life.

She seems very similar to Nikki in the final show, and judging by the events of Season 1, she probably would've been proven not guilty.

Avi[edit | edit source]

A man in his late 20s, part of a polyamorous relationship that's reeling from a personal tragedy. He also works on the Breach Team as a Breach Soldier. He is a resident of car 37.

Cleo[edit | edit source]

Layton's ex-wife who abandoned him. She is a resident of car 37 and is in her 30s.

She seems similar to Zarah in the final show, albeit less caring of Layton.

Turner[edit | edit source]

A man in his 40s, resident of and part of the "family" in car 37.

Bo[edit | edit source]

Resident of car 37. She is in her 20s.

Eduardo Raggio[edit | edit source]

One of the two murdered people in the second murder, who was a resident of car 37. He is murdered and tied up in the meat locker car.

Valerie 'Val' Childress[edit | edit source]

A former third-class passenger that came to the Night car to replace Pixi after she was drawered. She is murdered alongside Eduardo.

Miss Audrey[edit | edit source]

Miss Audrey is an ageless woman (in her 60s) who seems to be the lead performer of the Nightcar. She helps Pixi re-stabilize back into her old life and occasionally helps out others on questions about her.

She seems similar to Miss Audrey from the final show.

Jinju[edit | edit source]

An elite First Class passenger who also works as a fine dining chef at the train’s sushi bar and looks after the fish in the aquarium.

Mrs. Wright[edit | edit source]

A no-nonsense woman in her 60s who works in the agriculture car C57. She seems to be a higher ranking passenger that manages the car.

Wilford Industries & Transport[edit | edit source]

Brakemen[edit | edit source]

A loose lot who spend more time mediating drunks than solving real crime. Beat cops in a nice neighborhood. They are a part of the train’s fairly swiss clockworks, being the main form of security. Most of them consist of former military or Wilford security. They wear maroon uniforms.

Known members:

  • Roche (Lead Brakeman)
  • Bess Till
  • Osweiller

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Some characters seem similar to other characters in the TV Series.
  • The pilot episode is much darker than the show, as there is cannibalism and the entire train is more like a cult. One of the supporting factors is the fact that the engineers are "monk-like in mien."[22]
  • The episode seems to lean more towards the movie than the current show does, as the train hits 2 massive walls of ice in the episode.[22]
  • The event of the breach in car 56 is very similar to the one in Season 1 Episode 2.[22]
  • In the pilot, Wilford Industries was known as "Wilford Industries & Transport" instead of just Wilford Industries.
  • Wilford isn't on-board Snowpiercer just like season 1 of the series, however his backstory in the pilot seems darker. According to Sayori, Wilford's father grandfather worked in a car factory, but lost their job when the factory shutdown. His father went on a search for a job but never returned and his mother lost her house, leading them to living in shelters, the streets and eventually railyards and empty trains. His mother had to sacrifice herself for Wilford to go to school.[22]
  • According to the script, the temperature outside in the pilot is -140 degrees, compared to the show's -110/120 average and the comic's -80.[22]
  • The Brakemen's uniforms were maroon colored instead of the blue in the TV Series.[26][27]
  • The Wilford Industries & Transport plaque was re-used to make the Wilford Industries website's welcome page despite being dated.[28]
  • Contrary to the finalized version in the TV Series, CW-7 after the missiles/rockets it's in blows up, it's a red cloud of chemicals instead of blue.
  • Snowpiercer's departure in the pilot seems much more secret compared to the TV Series, seemingly taking place in a forest under secret operation instead of a large railyard where the TV Series' luxury liner was known to depart on it's rail cruises.
  • In the script Kronole is written as Chronole.
  • The brakemen are "a loose lot who spend more time mediating drunks than solving real crime, beat cops in a nice neighborhood, a part of the train’s fairly swiss clockworks" according to the script.[22]
  • The Brakemen Garrison has a food vending machine.[22]
  • 11 jackboots/security forces were killed during departure by tailies.[22]
  • The Nightcar has sleeping quarters and a corridor around it.[22]
  • Layton's brother, Damon, likes grilled cheese and tomato soup.
  • It's implied by Till that before the Earth froze, there were 10 billion people.[22]
    • This implies that the big rise in population could have been one of the reasons for scientists to develop CW-7, as more people could mean more usage of elements harmful to the Earth that play a role in global warming.
    • It could also be plausible the departure place in 2050, as it is estimated Earth's population would reach 10 billion by that year.
    • This could also be an explanation on the more sci-fi appearance of the train as a whole.
  • Melanie's surname has an extra E at the end in the script.
  • Besides characters and actors, there are a number of other things that make it into the final show from the pilot episode. These include:
    • Grilled cheese and tomato soup.
    • Cow 18
  • Tailies are referred to as prisoners.
