The third season of TNT's dystopian thriller television drama series Snowpiercer was announced on January 19, 2021,[1][2] a few days ahead of the release of the second season. It premiered on January 24, 2022.[3][4]

On January 10, 2022, it was announced via Netflix UK & Ireland Twitter page that the third season will be released on Netflix on 25 January, 2022.[5]

Synopsis

Season three picks up with Layton and his inner circle commanding a small Pirate train in search of Melanie and a possible warm location to restart civilization, aided by a newfound survivor. Back on Snowpiercer, Mr. Wilford is consolidating power, foiled only by secret allies of Layton’s hidden on the train, committed to the cause.

Development

On January 19, 2021, ahead of the second season premiere, TNT renewed the series for a third season.[1]

Writing

Casting

On February 16, 2021, Archie Panjabi was cast as Asha, but details of her character are were being kept under wraps.[6] On March 4, 2021 it was announced that Chelsea Harris has been promoted to series regular.[7]

Filming

Filming for season 3 began in March 2021.[9] On July 26, 2021, Daveed Diggs announced that they wrapped filming the third season.[10]

On Novermber 3, 2021, it was announced that the season is scheduled to premiere on January 24, 2022 on TNT.[11] On January 10, 2022, it was announced via Netflix UK & Ireland Twitter page that the third season will be released on Netflix on 25 January, 2022.[5]
