There are 131 Greenhouse cars aboard Snowpiercer. Whether they are referring to the total (including spice cars) or just the large-scale greenhouses in unclear.
These greenhouse variants are large, single-floored cars with glass domes reinforced with a grid of metal supports. Each car has a differing crop selection, where produce is farmed on regular cycles using hydroponics, natural and artificial lights.
Technology
INTERIOR:
These cars are fitted with overhead fans, and heating systems to control the internal temperate of the greenhouse environment specific for its crop selection. Vent-like systems are located at either end surrounding the doors.
3 tiered planters are location on either side of the car, equip with purple LED grow lights to aid in sunlight regulation, photosynthesis and providing the right color spectrum where the plant can grow and flourish. Each planter unit is built with a drip-system to control the flow of water.
EXTERIOR:
This greenhouse car has two forward facing vents at the front of each car, dedicated to internal airflow. Along its side are irrigation pipes which focus the flow of water throughout Large-Scale Greenhouses.
