History

The Aquarium, or more commonly known as The Sushi Bar, was a restaurant in the upper section of the train where only the best of seafood was served. It was considered one of the best restaurants on the entire train. Its chef was Jinju Seong, who also served as Agricultural (AGSEC) Officer.

It was completely destroyed by Josie Wellstead with a Pneumatic breach pike, in order to separate the front 10 cars of Snowpiercer from the rest of the train in order to create a separate Pirate Train.

Throughout the Series

Season 1

• Melanie visited Jinju while she was working at the Sushi Bar and ask her to work with Klimpt in order to regain Nikki's consciousness. Jinju gave sushi to Melanie for her dinner.
• Jinju took Till to a date, they ate some sushi together.
• Melanie took Layton here as a reward that he was able to find the murderer, but secretly poisoned him and put him in The Drawers.

Interior

The majority of the car was occupied by a large aquarium, with a glass corridor inside. The aquarium was accessible from the top of the car and humans were able to dive there with ease.

Trivia

• The entire aquarium was rendered using computer graphics imaging (CGI).
• The restaurant was no longer able to produce smoked-salmon avocado rolls due to a shortage of wood chips for the smoked salmon.
• Ruth Wardell and Nolan Grey used the sushi bar, as well as Lilah and Robert Folger. This indicates that both first and second class passengers had access to the sushi bar and aquarium.
• According to Head of Hospitality (Kevin), if agriculture on Snowpiercer dies, Wilford can restart everything. Which means the aquatic life lost in the Aquarium possibly could be brought back, if the Freeze ends and humanity survives.
• On lockdown, the J-Links are fixed close. However, there was one car, the Aquarium, with a manual override. The car was a weak point, designed so that it could still be jettisoned, even on lockdown. Two overrides had to be unlocked in order to do this.
  • The necessity of allowing the Aquarium's J-link to be manually overridden in an emergency was dramatically demonstrated when the car was breached, as its interior not only froze, but the car's massive volume of water explosively expanded as it did so, completely destroying the car down to its wheels.
• Despite the destruction of the car, aquatic life is not extinct, because there are Aquaculture Cars. Also the Aquarium, may have been a high-end version, of the Aquaculture Cars.
