The First Year Cull of Big Alice was an event happened in the first year after Big Alice's departure.

Event's description

Big Alice started with 200 passengers, but Wilford culled half of them in order to save resources. In the first year after the Freeze, Big Alice had departed with 43 cars, however, 3 cars (one of which was a Lemon) were disconnected on a secondary track in Southeast Asia, near Thailand, when Wilford had made the decision to lose weight, cut down on resource usage and culled half of Big Alice's population at night, when the passengers were sleeping. The ones he saved he deemed The Essentials.

Throughout the Series

After Joseph Wilford dethroned Layton and got complete control of Snowpiercer, Alex mentioned this event to make Ruth Wardell realized how evil Joseph Wilford is and made Ruth help Andre Layton.

While Snowpiercer was heading to New Eden on a secondary track, they encounter the 3 leftover cars. Bennett and Alex would clear the blockage with Javi reversing Snowpiercer back then arrived to pick the two engineers up.

Bennett: "Blockage is about three kilometers away."

Alex: "We're almost at the main line."

Bennett: "Why did I take this shortcut… Jesus. Looks like train cars."

Alex: "What?"

Melanie's hallucinations: "You know what's out there, don't you?"

Bennett: "Made you feel chosen, didn't he?"

Alex: "I was chosen. His crew…."

Bennett: "I think we have a block in the hydraulic ferrofluid line. The only problem is there’s over 1,000 feet of line on these cars."

Javi: "That could take days to locate. I better start back now before our reserves reach critical."

Alex: "Okay, you guys, I have a theory. One of these cars was a lemon. It was always breaking down. That’s why Wilford dropped it here."

Bennett: "So what? You think he knows where the line is blocked?"
