Background[edit | edit source]
Gilliam is the elder of the tail section, a mentor to Curtis, grooming him to become the leader of the revolution to free the people from the horrific conditions of the train.
During the first months in the train, the people of the tail section turned to cannibalism. They ate the weak but also infants. During that time, a young Curtis killed a mother with the goal to eat her baby. Gilliam took the knife of the teenager, cut of his own arm and offered it to Curtis instead.
In a devastating twist, it’s revealed that he has been in league with the evil Wilford for years, and that his helping Curtis is only part of Wilford's plan. He has also orchestrated the previous revolutions with Wilford to restore balance within the train.
