Terence is a recurring character on TNT's Snowpiercer. He is portrayed by Shaun Toub.
He is a charming, conniving, and ultimately dangerous janitor-turned-gangster who rules the Black Market with an enigmatic power, inspiring fierce loyalty in his army of minions. He is later assassinated by Pike on the orders of Andre Layton (to protect Josie Wellstead) and replaced by John Osweiller.
History
Background
Before Snowpiercer, he cleaned a high-rise building. Terence is the Head Janitor on the Train.[1] However, his true significance is as a leader of the black market. He has a reputation for always demanding a price.[1]
Throughout The Series
Season 1
On the Fight Night day, Layton asked Annie to meet with Terence. Layton questioned if Terence ever sold to Sean Wise, and Terence exclaims that he didn’t kill Sean, despite having sold to him. The two talk further and Terence reveals that the night Sean was killed, he tried to buy Kronole from him with a guy from First: early thirties, buzz cut, well maintained appearance. Layton then traded his ring which Zarah gave back to him, and asks if he can bargain for one Access Chip.[2]
On the LJ's tribunal day, When Astrid and Josie switch places so that Josie could find Layton. Astrid send Josie to the Market to meet with Terence. Terence, Annie and Josie to gets to The Drawers. The two janitors were only there to steal the supplies, later revealed to be suspension drugs for them to make Kronole, leaving Josie to find Layton alone.[3]
After Melanie and Klimpt realized that both suspension drugs and Layton were missing. She confronts Terence and ask if he knows where Layton is, threatened to take his dominant arm if he refuses to tell her. Terence promised Melanie that he would immediatedly alarm her if Layton ever comes to him. Later he would meet Layton in the Night Car along with Clay and Miss Audrey, Layton asks if Terence wants to participate in the upcoming revolution. Terence refused but he never alarms Melanie of Layton's presence.[4]
Personality
Terence is shown as someone who looks out for himself and will do anything necessary to ensure his survival, even if that means to backstab other people. When an opportunity is presented to him, he will think about the potential consequences and will always try and get something out of it. If he can't, he will not bother.
