Snowpiercer: The Explorers is a french graphic novel, and contains the second and third volumes to the Snowpiercer series, the book was originally written by Benjamin Legrand and illustrated by Jean-Marc Rochette. The book serves as a sequel to the first volume, Snowpiercer: The Escape, which was written by Jaques Lob, and published in 1982.

A fourth volume to the series, titled Terminus, would later be written by Olivier Bocquet and published in 2015, serving as a conclusion to the series.

The two volumes were originally published seperately in french, with The Explorers in 1999, and The Crossing in 2000. The book was later translated and re-released by Titan Comics in 2014, where they were both combined into a single book. A third volume containing Terminus was later published in 2019.

The book later gained a TV Re-edition in 2020, featuring a new paperback cover.

Synopsis[edit | edit source]

Coursing through an eternal winter, on an icy track wrapped around the frozen planet Earth, there travels a train that never stops. This is Snowpiercer: one thousand and one carriages long. The last bastion of human civilization. Or is it? A second train also travels through the snow on the same track, its inhabitants living in constant fear of crashing into the first Snowpiercer. And from this second train, a small group of scavenging explorers now emerges, risking their lives in the deadly cold to explore what’s left of the world.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • While the synopsis claims the Icebreaker runs on the same track as the first train, the Icebreaker is shown to be significantly larger.
  • The cover for the English translation appears to be a cropped version of the original cover from The Crossing.
  • Despite containing two entire volumes, the book only ends up around 30 pages longer than the first book.
    • This may be the reason for volumes 2 and 3 being merged for the re-release.
